My wife and I started Assisted Villages Foundation to provide and promote quality Early Childhood Education in geographically remote and poor villages in Africa (currently in Uganda). We currently have one classroom model in Katoke village located in Mubende District – Uganda. The class has over 50 children enrolled in the program and they are all mixed up in one room regardless of their age and education level.
Our goal is to build permanent Early Childhood Learning and proper development centers in poor villages in great need. We based this project on the principle that every child
deserves an opportunity to learn and explore his/her highest
potential; to be prepared for the transition from home to the commencement of
formal schooling. The children we help spend their early years walking long
distances to collect water, fetch firewood, spend hours in the garden with their parents or siblings,
and they take care of household chores. Children carry
heavy baskets on their head which can affect their brain development interfering
with the ability to learn. Our dream is to establish Bright Steps Preschools/Kindergartens in poor villages that will provide school readiness
activities by combining educational, interactive programs with proper
developmental procedures.
